Thinking of Popping The Question?!

1184792_576160819109408_1152711774_nHere at the Follies we know all about romance. We enjoy watching audiences that come to see the show, often attending as couples and sometimes, some of them obviously on a first date! Esther’s is really the perfect first date. It gives the opportunity to have an activity to do together (seeing the performance!) while sharing laughs and drinks. Esther’s is an ideal date night no matter your relationship status, it’s always fun to spend special time enjoying comedy with your special someone.

We’ve had the honor of many marriage proposals to happen here at the theatre also! It is always a unique moment. Usually Ray, our handsome magician handles helping the couple out. He goes out into the audience, and approaches the usually unknowing lady and says “Are you married? (she shakes her head no…) “Do you want to be?!” And then the lucky fellow proposing is handed the microphone and does his thing. Cast members peek out to get a glimpse of such a momentous exchange happening. It’s truly a joy to witness.

This year Esther’s Follies is partnered with the folks over at Pop The Question a marriage proposal planning team. Do you have someone special in your life that you are looking to take the next step with? Consider coming to Esther’s to share that moment! Here is more about Veronica at Pop The Question:

With full time advisers, planners, and a team of very talented singers, dancers, and actors, we make sure every detail is set just right for that special moment when you ask your sweetheart for their hand in marriage. Also,  all of our consultations and expert advice are 100% free and do not require a purchase, so if you just have a few questions but got the rest figured out we’d be glad to help! Pop the Question operates in the state of Texas in the cities of; Round rock, Austin, Dripping Springs, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, and San Antonio. We know firsthand how nerve racking a proposal can be and we want to take that pressure off your hands so you can focus on this very special moment with your loved one.

Check out their website and give Veronica a call for a free consultation. But most of all–we hope to see you over at the Follies to enjoy our Valentines themed sketches. Cheers love bugs!

Nathalie’s Grapefruit

_MG_4074(1)Hello Follies family! We wanted to share some news from our cast member, the delightful and talented Nathalie Holmes. Read her information below and we’d love to see you as we show her our full support. Thank you!

Hi! My name is Nathalie.  All I’ve ever wanted to do is entertain people and help them laugh away their troubles. I am a cast member and magician’s assistant at Esther’s Follies. I’m also a teaching artist for Creative Action. Over the past six years, I have taught bully prevention to over 20,000 elementary students. I also toured the state as frontwoman of The Boogies, a 70’s funk/hip hop cover band. I’m a hard worker, and I like to keep busy.

I’ve had to slow down quite a bit after doctor’s discovered a grapefruit sized fibroid tumor. The tumor (I’ve affectionately named it “Grapefruit”) is benign, but growing rapidly (currently 8.5cm) and is causing me a lot of pain and discomfort.Tumor is a scary word, especially for me. My mother has been living with stage IV cancer for years. I’ve seen her struggles with her health and outrageous medical expenses. Unfortunately, now it’s my turn.

Here’s the worst news: My health insurance won’t cover the doctor’s bills, hospital bills, or the surgery itself.  The estimated cost was $22,000, which is just stupid. I’ve managed to fill out enough paperwork to get the cost down to $10,000. Still, that’s so much more than I ever expected. It’s time that I admit to myself that I can’t do it alone and will need the help of friends and family. After I have the surgery there is an estimated six weeks recovery time where I’ll be unable to work and there will also be additional bills from the doctors and hospitals that I need to cover.

This is the part where I humbly take off my hat and hold out my little “Anything helps” cup. It would mean the world to me if you could donate any spare pennies you may have to these enormous pain in the….grapefruit sized bills I’ll be paying. I will write thank you cards, sing songs, and make bed ridden comedy videos to show my appreciation. Donations to can made at http://www.gofundme.com/nathalieverafter.

I’m also throwing a benefit at Esther’s Follies on January 11th. $25 a ticket will get you Best of Esther’s sketches, magic, musical performances, special guest Texas Live Band Karaoke, an interactive photobooth, and a silent auction of items from my wonderful & talented friends. There may be a few celebrity pieces as well. Mama knows some people. 🙂 Call 512-320-0553 to get on the list for the show that Sunday! Doors will open at 5:00 pm with the show starting at 6:00 pm. This is going to be so much fun, I can’t wait to see you.

Well, that’s about all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Happy Holidays!
-Nathalie

One thing you may not know about our family at Esther’s is how much we enjoy eating. Seriously if food is involved we are first in line and ready to devour anything in front of us. Maybe it’s the fast pace of our show that makes us so hungry, and luckily our exposure to fantastic delicacies near by to help us obtain our foodie status. Fortunately our friends at Chez Nous just down the road up the ante with their first class authentic french food. Especially during the holiday times, nothing is cozier than a delicious, quaint dinner at Chez Nous. The vibe is warm and inviting and meals never disappoint. They have been nominated for just about every “best of” in Austin when it comes to state of the art French cuisine. They are one of our favorite places to dine downtown and we hope you will stop by and try them out! See our complete list of “where to go/where to eat” here on the website: http://www.esthersfollies.com/favorites/   Thanks and happy eating!
